You Don’t Have to Go to the Gym to Workout

Keeping your body moving is just as important as what you put into - or keep out of - it. Exercise benefits you from head to toe. Yes, you need it to increase muscle tone and burn calories, but once you develop a routine that is right for you, you will also notice better moods, more restful sleep and more energy for daily activities.

Go Walking

If you dislike the idea of keeping count of the same repetitions, a great option for regular exercise is to walk as much as possible. You can make it as simple as parking your car as far away from the grocery store entrance as you can, scheduling a time to go strolling through your neighborhood.
Try walking quickly and then slowing it down, then increasing speed once again for maximum benefit. You can even break up your walks into chunks of fifteen minutes at a time every day, if you need more flexibility. Move your arms briskly while you walk for maximum cardio effort. You can simply time your walk or follow a pre-measured distance guide.

Stay Home

Home is where the heart is. It can also be where the heart-healthy exercise takes place. Thanks to an increased interest in fitness and common technology, there is no shortage of available workouts to do at home. You can strengthen your biceps, tone your calves and enhance your glutes with no commute and no equipment.
If you need a little guidance, you can choose from DVDs or streaming videos that can be customized as per your needs. Workout in the morning, during lunch, before bed or anytime in between. The beauty of self-directed fitness regimens is that, you can do them any time of the day or night and fit them in whenever your schedule allows.
You know what you are capable of and what motivates you, much more so than any class instructor or personal trainer ever could. The pace and the goals are yours, and yours alone. You call the shots!

Make Exercise Fun

Making the best of what you have is great advice, and definitely includes taking fitness breaks no matter where you are or what you are doing. The only requirement is thinking outside of the box. Taking the kids to the playground? Try getting in a few pull ups on the monkey bars, squats in between swing pushes and push ups on the picnic bench at snack time.
Household chores can also be turned into miniature exercise sessions. Take the trash out one small bag at a time, take a few extra laps up the steps when putting away laundry and move briskly while vacuuming your floors.
Even if you are simply relaxing at home, you can sneak in some moves. Doing leg lifts and walking in place while watching your favorite television show are both good options. You can also use objects such as books or even canned foods as weights if you want to get a little boost.
Taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. With some thought and planning, you can make yourself a perfect home gym or find the location that works best for you with little to no expense. All you have to do is have the desire to commit to yourself, better your life and get going.
