Types of Aerobic Exercise

There are a number of aerobic exercises which you can do to keep yourself fit and your weight under control. Here are some exercises that you can perform even without going to the gym.
When speaking about aerobic exercises, it is always assumed that we are talking about exercises that take place in gyms. However, any physical exercise which tends to improve the oxygen levels in the body can be termed as aerobic exercise.
The word aerobic means 'with oxygen', and refers to the use of oxygen for the body's metabolic processes. Different exercises can be performed at low to moderate intensity for an extended period of time. These exercises have also become famous for weight loss as well.
Aerobic exercises benefit not only people who are overweight, but are beneficial for each one of us. They help in achieving proper body weight, and at the same time they also improve the general well-being of the person and make the person absolutely fit. If you visit a gym, you will notice that aerobic exercises have an important place in workout plans.
Normally, moderate intensity exercises are prescribed to be sustained for a certain period of time, which overloads the heart and lungs and makes them work harder than while at rest. When you do these exercises, you will be using large muscle groups repetitively for an extended period of time.

Walking

Walking is said to be one of the best aerobic exercises to lose fat. All you need is a pair of walking shoes, and about 30 to 60 minutes every day or every alternate day. However, you will have to ensure that you walk at a considerable speed and not just stroll around the park if you want to achieve the benefits of this exercise.

Running

Running and jogging is one of the most popular form of aerobic exercise, as it can be done anywhere, anytime, and does not require any exercise equipment apart from a pair of jogging shoes. It is also great at burning calories and helps get back into shape at the earliest.
The beauty of this exercise is that you will be able to enjoy nature and get fresh air if you go jogging in a park. If you are new to running, you may find it a little exhaustive, but with time, you will get used to it.

Cycling

Most gyms have stationary cycles, which are extremely good for cardiovascular exercise. Also, it does not cause any type of stress on the back, hips, knees, or ankles. If you are the kind who likes to enjoy nature, then you can use a standard cycle for an aerobic workout; alternately, you can use stationary cycles to exercise at home.

Swimming

In summers, swimming is one of the best aerobic exercises you can opt for. If you suffer from joint pain, swimming can be very helpful, as it does not cause much strain on the joints, yet gives a wonderful workout for the body.
When you go swimming, it is recommended you do laps, as they are the best way to burn off extra calories.

Step Aerobics

It is an high intensity workout, which gives extra boost by incorporating an action of stepping onto a platform.
It has low impact on the joints as compared to running and jogging. This is the best exercise to tone the lower body.

Skipping

Skipping is one of the cheapest aerobic exercises, which can easily be done in the confines of your home as well. It keeps you very light on your toes, and is good for timing and coordination. It is also one of the most efficient fat burners.
According to your liking and convenience, you can choose any one of the exercises mentioned here. When you get bored, you can easily shift to the another one and enjoy your workout, which will ensure you stay fit as well. For best results, it is advised to change the exercise every six weeks.
