Pronator is a muscle that produces or affects pronation. If there is an inward roll of the foot, then it is referred to as pronation. An overpronator's foot is rolled inward to a large extent and special shoes are designed for such kind of people.
Selecting appropriate running shoes is a must as a wrong shoe might cause unwanted damage to the feet. At times, it might also cause serious pain in the other parts of the body.
There are three types of foot movement which are referred to as pronation. Pronation is determined by the way the feet adapts to the surface, when it hits the ground. If the feet is subjected to overpronation, several painful problems can result like flat feet, shin splints, hammertoe, etc. To avoid all these problems, right shoes for your feet is a must.
You can perform the experiment given here to find out if your feet are overpronating or not. Lay a piece of paper towel on the ground. Wet the bottom of your feet and then place it on the paper towel. If your feet are overpronated, the footprint will show very little arch.
Stand barefooted and observe your foot. If it is overpronated, it will cause ankles to bend and will turn inwards when bearing the weight of your whole body. The soles of the shoes worn on overpronated feet will wear out from the insides.

Things to be Considered Before Buying Running Shoes for Overpronators

The shoe choice will depend on the kind of running you do. If you run everyday, you will require advanced shoes. These shoes are expensive to a certain extent but, they are constructed with orthopedic-designed padding and it also supports a varied number of features.
However, if you run occasionally, then you will require basic supportive shoes that fits in your feet well. These shoes are quite inexpensive as compared to the previous ones.
The next thing that is to be considered is the fitting of the shoe. There should be sufficient gap between the foot and the shoe. Also, there should be half inch gap between the big toe and the front of the shoe. This will allow the foot to breathe well. In order to select a perfect size, you can go to a store and take help of one of the assistants.
Other points that are supposed to be considered when it comes to the construction of shoes are stability, motion control and support. Stability is one of the vital features since the ankle tends to bend inwards while bearing the whole weight of the body.
When the feet strikes the ground, motion control is required since an overpronator's feet is bent, and in order to prevent the formation of flat feet, support is required.
There are different shape of shoes, namely; straight, curved and semi-curved. Overpronators should opt for straight shoes in order to achieve optimum support and stability and also to avoid injuries. If the wrong pair of shoes are chosen, then the results might be adverse.
