9 Phases You Experience While Losing Weight

Rohan Kadu Oct 06, 2020
So you may be going through that weight loss program, and want to relate to how the other birds in the flock are going through, or you just want to know how others relate to on their journey towards weight loss. While they could be at different stages of losing weight, most of them are in one of the nine phases.

Did You Know?

According to WHO, obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally, with at least 2.8 million people dying each year as a result of being overweight or obese. Once associated with high-income countries, obesity is now also prevalent in low- and middle-income countries

The Rumination Phase

In the movie Ratatouille, there is a nice dialog between the father son duo - "You can't change nature, son! Change IS nature, dad, the part we can influence.
And it all starts when we decide." So, realization has hit you, and now you are committed to doing something about that tire hanging around your waist.

The Gearing Up Phase

You got the plan ready, which is to wake up at 6 am, hit the gym for 90 minutes, and stick to the decided fat-free diet. You are telling your friends that you are gonna hit this health routine hard and fast, and stick with it till it shows positive results.
The Relaxation Phase
It's been two to three weeks and the initial motivation is beginning to peel off. You've got two or three pounds lighter, and decide to take a day or two off.
The Back to Binge Eating Phase
You feel confident after your premature success, and start to dive again into binge eating. Those hamburgers and pizzas look tempting enough, so much so that you just can't resist them.
Cutting yourself some slack from your set routine has undone you. Noticing yourself in the mirror or a sharp comment from a friend has made you realize about the tire again. It's not even a month, and you have hit rock-bottom.
The Guilt Phase

The Starting from Square One Phase

Alright. Enough is enough. You can't bear the mantle of being overweight anymore, and are serious about getting back on track. You remember how good things were when you were on track, and decide this time to lose some weight and gain a proper figure for real.

The Progress Phase

This time you have covered quite a lot of ground, not only on the treadmill, but also health-wise. You are seeing some tangible results, which put a smile on your face. People are commenting about how you have lost weight, and it feels nice to hear just that.
The Success Phase
You have successfully crossed all barriers, and have reached the hallmark of having a good figure health-wise. You have overcome your junk food temptations, and disciplined yourself to sticking to a proper diet. Congratulations!
The Back to Square One Phase
It was good while it lasted, but you have to stick to the routine to maintain that figure. Neglecting your fitness regime makes you go back to having a 'one-pack', but you ignore the outcome anyway, as old habits die hard.
