Body wraps for weight loss have become a craze in the last few years, due to various claims of loss of 6 to 20 inches per session. Other than that, they are also known for natural detoxification, rejuvenation of sore muscles, and improvement of blood circulation.
All these factors contribute to the natural weight loss that a person wants to achieve. Apart from these benefits, they also help to improve, tone, and tighten the skin, thereby improving its texture. Their therapeutic effects help get rid of joint pain and inflammation. These benefits can be acquired from homemade wraps as well.

Variety of Recipes

Simple body wraps can be made using a mixture of clay and natural sea salt. There are a number of other ingredients, which can also be added to the body wraps, for inducing weight loss. There are a number of variations, as one recipe doesn't suit every one.
Customizing the ingredients for particular needs, according to skin types, and for certain problem areas will give you more benefits. Often, health salons and spas do not take these differences into consideration, and hence, the results tend to be disappointing. The ingredients of recipes can range from mud and clay to coffee, mustard, ginger, etc.

Basic Ingredients

The basic ingredients to be used in homemade body wraps, include:

☛ moisturizing agents
☛ essential oils
☛ natural additives (in the form of paste)

These ingredients work together, and give nutrients to the skin. They also stimulate lymphatic drainage.
Different types of natural clay are available for different purposes.
  • Green clay helps in stimulating circulation, detoxifies the body, tightens the pores, softens the skin, and improves its suppleness.
  • Red clay is meant for dry skin. It hydrates the skin, and also refines its texture.
  • If you have oily skin, you should opt for fuller's earth. It will absorb excess oil, tighten, detoxify, and improve the tone of the skin.
As is the case with natural clay, there are different minerals with different properties.
  • Use epsom salt if you want to soften your skin and detoxify.
  • Sea salt, on the other hand, softens, rejuvenates, exfoliates, and hydrates the skin by reducing the dry skin cells.
  • For detoxifying and improving dry skin, and accelerating skin metabolism, use dead sea salt.
You can add up to two herbs in your body wrap. Make sure the herbs are dried, before you use them.
  • Use chamomile for relaxing the muscles, promoting cell regeneration, and also if you have varicose veins.
  • If you have itchy skin and bruises, use parsley.
  • For healing damaged skin, use stinging nettle.
  • Other herbs like dandelion, spearmint, calendula, etc., can also be used.
Moisturizing agents will ensure that your skin does not dry out during the process of a body wrap. Some of the moisturizing agents include apple cider vinegar, glycerin, witch hazel extract, goat milk, lemon juice, yogurt, etc. These have other properties too, which are beneficial in the weight loss process.
Essential Oils like lavender, chamomile, lemon, lemongrass, rosemary, spearmint, etc. help in stimulating circulation, nourishing the skin, etc. Along with these, you can also add natural additives like aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, olive oil, ginger paste, etc.

How to Use Body Wraps made at Home

  • Take a steam bath, or a warm shower, to open up the pores of your skin.
  • Rub the formula over your entire body.
  • Cover yourself with towels or sheet.
  • There are also wrapping sheets that can be used. It is said, that these help to squeeze the tissues, and give better results.
  • Leave the wrap for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • After peeling off the wrap, take a bath with warm water.
A lot of people say, that homemade body wraps tend to be messy. Hence, it is recommended to apply the wrap, and lie down in the bathtub. To derive better benefits, follow a good exercise regime as well.
